Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Gorilla trekking is a must-do in Uganda, since close to half of the world's remaining population of mountain gorillas are found in this country. However, Mount Elgon is still the largest volcanic base in the world, stretching 80 kilometres in diameter and 3,000 metres above the surrounding plains. A visit to Mount Elgon's deserted moorlands unveils secluded splendor and interesting wildlife on the mountainside. Unlike other mountains, the ultimate goal for visitors to Mount Elgon is not the final ascent to Wagagai Peak but the descent into the 40km² caldera.
