Your invitation is ready.

Walking on the wild side at Yala National Park

What better way to start your thrilling date with the wild than to go on a safari ride? Come face to face with the planet’s highest density of leopards while these predators prowl proudly in their domain and marvel at majestic elephants march freely across the plains, almost in a sedate manner. Then, it is time to look up over the sky and wetlands as creatures of both sky and water rule the roost. Native forest birds such as Sri Lanka Jungle Fowl and Crimson-fronted Barbet, as well as waterfowl such as the rare Purple Heron flying and wading freely in their territory, all for your viewing pleasure. Next, nature’s hallowed grounds await as you embark on relaxing beach walks and sightseeing strolls through the park, admiring the immense and expansive bounty of flora and fauna that surrounds you. Now we know your stomach is rumbling but dinner isn’t too far away. Choose to dine right at where you left off at the edge of the forest,  accompanied by nocturnal animals stringing melodies in the background or right in the middle of the gentle river streams of the Menik Ganga. There is a dedicated chef at your service and you can be assured a well-stocked bar is always nearby for that bit of jolly and enjoyment.

Have a whale of a time at the southern coast
A good place to re-evaluate your existence (we mean physically) is at Sri Lanka’s southernmost point during the months from December to April. This time each year, exclamations and cameras collide as the blue whales, the world’s largest creatures, as well as sperm whales and spinner dolphins gather for a frolicking good time in the seas south of Dondra Point. Head out on a cruising trawler to come face to face with these giants, and pick a spot near the cape and hold your breath – as they may just decide to put on a cheeky show for you near the sight of shore.

    Sigiriya or Lion Rock
This is the stuff of ancient legends, blood, tears and gold. Built by an obsessed monarch in the 5th century to defend himself from vengeance after killing his father and forcing his estranged half-brother into exile, this is Sri Lanka's most singular icon. The UNESCO World Heritage Site divides into two sections: the elaborate sprawling base comprising a series of terraced gardens and symmetrical bathing pools that still spurt water after 1,500 years, and the colossal rock itself, housing the palace now in ruins that rises 200 metres majestically above the jungle of the central plains. Photography and history aficionados alike will find delight in the numerous visual and olden iconographies such as the delicate frescoes of the Sigiriya damsels, the pair of gigantic lion’s paws carved into the original bedrock entrance, and finally, the summit that offers rewarding panoramas of the glories of one king’s fixation with power and supremacy.
