“Kingdom in the Sky” and “South Africa’s answer to Nepal” are two of the many names used to describe Lesotho. Can you imagine a holiday where you are above everyone else in the world? Lesotho is the only country in the world that lies entirely at 1500m above sea level. In this unique land of heights and extremes, Chan Brothers Travel Private Tours can customize your tour any way you like: sightseeing, hiking, abseiling and even skiing.
Sehlabathebe National Park The oldest nature reserve in Lesotho, Sehlabathebe National Park comprises of 6500 hectares of rugged wilderness at an average elevation of 2400m along the South African border. The park is part of the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation and Development Area which aims to conserve and sustainably manage the exceptional biodiversity in the region. Go on a cultural tour of rock paintings and ancient Basotho stone dwellings or take in the park’s impressive rock formations, prolific birdlife and game species on one of the many hikes available.

Katse Dam
Standing at 185 metres above ground, Katse Dam is the highest dam in Africa and regarded as an engineering feat. The dam is the centerpiece of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project and considered one of the most efficient in Africa because of its great depth and relatively small surface area. A trip to the dam from Maseru requires a day trip, the spectacular views along the way and at the dam itself are definitely worth it.

Have a smoking time at Semonkong
Literally meaning “Place of Smoke”, Semonkong is known for the mighty Malestsunyane Falls, the highest waterfall in Africa. A magnificent haze of smoke is created as the water falls into the gorge some 196 metres below, giving rise to the name Semonkong. And if the plummeting falls don’t whet your appetite, try the Malestsunyane Abseil, the longest commercially operated single-drop abseil in the world that’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Stay at the Semonkong Lodge on the banks of the Malestsunyane River, its stone and thatch rooms are the perfect balance between civilisation and rustic elegance. The lodge offers a range of customized tours, from pony treks to fly fishing and donkey pub crawls.

Ski in Africa
Skiing in Africa is about as unheard of as scuba diving is in Singapore, but Lesotho is one of the two places in Africa where you can ski. The Afriski resort is nestled amidst the magical Maloti mountains and is one of the two places where you can ski in Africa. Choose to ski, snowboard or simply enjoy the beautiful snow-covered surrounding landscapes. The slopes and cosy group sizes in this resort are perfect for beginners.
