Today’s Jordan is every bit determined to be an oasis of peace just as it has been throughout history as the crossroads of empires. Coveted by major historical powers from the Egyptian Pharaohs, ancient Babylonians to the Roman legionnaires all of which left their impressive imprints on its desert soils, Jordan has as rich a history as any of its far larger neighbours. Throw in headlining sights such as the inimitable Petra, the iconic Dead Sea and the dawn and dusk of otherworldly Wadi Rum and there you have a country promising any intrepid explorers an unforgettable trip of a lifetime. Discover all these and more with a customised Jordan tour package from Chan Brothers Travel Private Tours and get to know this slice of safe haven in the Middle East.

    A world wonder
Lost for centuries until it was discovered in the 1800s by a Swiss explorer, the magnificent Petra, a hand-carved sandstone city of altars, tombs and dwellings, is a testament to the creativity of the ancient Nabateans that lived more than 2,000 years ago. Walking through a narrow gorge in a secluded valley and seeing the facade of the Treasury, Petra’s most singular sight appearing right before your eyes must count as one of life’s most memorable experiences. Past numerous tombs along a steep uphill walk lies an equally impressive monastery offering an overview of this wonder of the world.

    Mars on Earth
Located at the southeastern corner of Jordan lies the lunar-like landscape of Wadi Rum, an arid valley filled with weathered sandstone, reddened dunes and towering monoliths. Dawn and dusk are spectacularly stunning but any time spent in this UNESCO World Heritage Site is guaranteed to be an experience like no other. Staying at one of the guest camps hosted by the native Bedouins who have been inhabiting this area for thousands of years, and sharing a meal of traditional grilled meats and vegetables is a precious opportunity; so is waking up at sunrise for a camel ride through the desert a moment you will never forget.
