Upon arrival at Yangon International Airport, transfer to Kin Pun. Along the way, explore Kha Khat Wain Kyaung – home to about 400 monks and one of the three largest monasteries in Myanmar. Upon arrival, hop on a hill truck to the summit of the Mount Kyaiktiyo where you will be greeted by the sight of Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, also popularly known as Golden Rock. According to legend, the Golden Rock is precariously perched on a strand of Buddha’s hair. Spend your afternoon on the platform; surrounding the Golden Rock are numerous monasteries, rest areas, souvenir shops, and teashops. As the day ends, take the hill truck for your descent before transferring to the hotel. Free at leisure after check-in.

Note: The hill truck is not chartered; it serves locals as well. It may be an open-top truck; please prepare a raincoat or umbrella in case of wet weather.

After breakfast, transfer to Mawlamyine. Upon arrival, a home-cooked lunch of Mon specialties will be served. After that, head to Mon Cultural Museum, which is dedicated to the Mon history of the region. Its exhibits include 100-year-old wooden sculptures, ceramics, Mon musical instruments, royal funerary urns, silver betel boxes, and stelae with Mon inscriptions. Take a stroll around the area – admire impressive colonial architecture – and arrive at First Baptist Church of Mawlamyine, an English-influenced, Gothic Revival structure. End your day with a visit to the nearby village of Pa-Auk, which is famous for its weaving of the traditional Mon style sarongs for men and women. Thereafter, transfer to the hotel. Free at leisure after check-in.

This morning, proceed to Seindon Mibaya Kyaung, a dilapidated and rickety 100-year-old wooden monastery famed for being the place where Queen Seindon sought refuge after Myanmar’s last monarch, King Thibaw, took power. Next, embark on a boat journey down Salween River – one of the region’s last free-flowing rivers – to Hpa-An. Enroute, make a stop at the village of U Nar Auk, where you will take a tuk-tuk to observe a temple decorated with exquisite wood carvings. Lunch will be served on the boat before another stop is made at the village of Pa Lin; take a stroll around this local community, which consists of Barmar, Kayin, Pa’O, and Shan people. Upon arrival at Hpa-An, witness, at dusk, the spectacle of a swarm of bats flying out of a cave to feed – a spectacular natural phenomenon. Thereafter, transfer to the hotel. Free at leisure after check-in.

Today, prepare yourself for a day of adventure as you experience real Kayin lifestyle. Begin with kayaking leisurely through the paddy fields (30 minutes) before continuing on foot through the forest (1 hour) to visit a Kayin village, where the local community is vegetarian and wear traditional clothes. Then, walk and kayak back to the starting point for your transfer to Yangon. Along the way, explore Kawgun Cave, which consists of thousands of tiny clay Buddhas and carvings plastered all over the walls and roof of this open cavern. Thereafter, transfer to the hotel. Free at leisure after check-in.

Note: You may wish to prepare a pair of shorts, a pair of slippers, and a t-shirt for kayaking.

If the water level is low in the paddy fields (February – May), it will be replaced by a guided canoe trip through a cave (30 minutes). You can experience canoeing through a cave where a torch light might even be needed for vision.

If you do not wish to kayak, a local can be arranged to kayak for you.

Please ensure that there is a lifejacket in the kayak.

After breakfast, admire Yangon’s most famous landmark – Shwedagon Pagoda. You will be shown a deeper insight in the Buddhist religion; the daily life of the people living in the immediate surroundings of the pagoda; and how the spiritual belief is mixed with the belief in spirits worshipped in Myanmar. Thereafter, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
